In February 2002, Guiseley Amateur Operatic Society presented Fiddler on The Roof, the heart-warming story of dairyman Tevye, his family, and the village of Anatevka in Czarist Russia, where faith and love inspire a new generation.

Fiddler on The Roof is based the folk tales of Sholom Aleichem, Yiddish literature's most beloved authour. He expressed the lives, the dreams and the aspirations of his people living in those small ramshackle, poverty-striken Jewish villages of Czarist Russia. His folk tales captured the hunger, the humour and the irony of a people maintaining an absurd pride amid desperate circumstances.
