GAOS is one of the longest-established amateur theatrical groups in West Yorkshire.
We have always performed musicals and operetta with one main production each year - usually in February-March.
We try and adopt a professional approach to our productions, working with experienced
and professional production teams and usually cast by open audition. We design and
build our own sets and this enables us to get the maximum working space from a restricted stage area.
We hire costumes for most shows and usually work with a pit orchestra of 10 or 12 players.
We design our own theatre programme each year, winning the
NODA North East Programme Competition for the last four or more years and the
NODA
National Competition with our programme for The King and I. We have a very loyal and long serving core membership
but new members, young or old, either playing or back stage, are always needed and made welcome.
GAOS has been a very keen supporter of The National Operatic and Dramatic Association, having hosted many
NODA
events at the theatre as well sending large parties of members to the North-East Area's Annual Weekend.
